The Hemel Hempstead store saw first-hand the struggles faced by the county’s homeless when they took part in the Dacorum Emergency Night Shelter (DENS) Sponsored Sleepout.
Braving the elements
Four of the team members braved the elements overnight to raise awareness and vital cash for local charity DENS, which supports vulnerable single homeless people and those in crisis in the area.
Matt Percy, Sam Watson, Chris Bell and Danielle Nightingale raised £340 by accepting donations in store in the run up to the event.
Store supervisor Sam who led the team in their efforts says: ‘It was a challenge for us all, but we also know that it pales in comparison to the challenges faced by people sleeping rough on our streets every night.
Sadly, charities like DENS are essential, and with winter looming, they need all the support they can get to assist those in need. We’re very proud to be supporting DENS, and we were overwhelmed by the community support behind this special cause.’
DENS provides a number of integrated services in Dacorum, including The Elms temporary emergency accommodation, DENS Day Centre and DENS Dacorum Foodbank.
The DENS Sponsored Sleepout took at the Cathedral & Abbey Church of St Albans.
