Helston store director, Paul McGrane, has completed a mammoth 164 mile round trip charity bike ride from Tandragee to Dublin in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Starting at 4.30am and finishing at 9pm, Paul and his fellow cycling enthusiasts were exhausted but proud to complete the challenge in aid of a cause close to Paul’s heart after he lost his grandfather to the disease.

Practice made perfect

Paul returned to his family’s home country of Ireland to take part in the bike ride, to raise £700. He said: ‘Fortunately the roads and countryside in Ireland are much like the beautiful terrain surrounding us in Cornwall. Thankfully this meant I had plenty of hills to practice on!

‘I pledged to raise £700 and aim to reach this by Dementia Awareness Week.’

Unite for dementia

The Alzheimer’s Society is the leading dementia charity and is here for everyone affected by dementia, which is set to be the 21st century’s biggest killer.

The charity’s Unite campaign aims to change the landscape of dementia forever, reaching every single person affected by the condition to offer help and support.

Alzheimer’s Society is urging more people like Paul to come together and unite against dementia. There are many ways you can get involved – whether it’s becoming a Dementia Friend, campaigning or donating to fund research for a cure. Further information is available at alzheimers.org.uk.
