Specsavers in Haverfordwest is celebrating after being recognised at a national awards ceremony for its commitment to providing state-of-the-art eye services to its community.

Clinical excellence

Winning a ‘Special Award in Clinical Excellence’ at Specsavers’ national award ceremony, the new store on Bridge Street was recognised for the time and resources it has invested in its new site and facilities, as well as its ongoing work with local hospital services.

Held at the ICC in Birmingham and presented by comedian Stephen Mangan, two other Specsavers’ stores, Newport and Plymouth, were also recognised for their work in the Clinical Excellence category.

The store’s award win coincides with a £500,000 relocation to a new premises on Bridge Street to meet the growing demands for its optical and audiology services, increasing the number of test rooms from four to six and adding cutting-edge equipment, such as an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine, to screen for eye conditions.

The store has also been nominated for an Enhanced Optical Service Award in the prestigious Optician Awards later this year.

Thrilled to receive award

‘We are thrilled to have received this award and to have been nominated in yet another national awards,’ said Paul Skoczek, store director.

‘The team has worked so hard to ensure the new store opening would be a success and that we would keep delivering the best possible services to our customers throughout the transition. It has been a challenging but special time for us and this award is the icing on the cake.’

Judging the category, Paul Morris, director of optometry advancement at Specsavers, praised the work the store has done for people in the Pembrokeshire town:

‘The Haverfordwest store has developed dispensing opticians to deliver low-vision services, engaged with pilot schemes using cutting edge equipment, such as the OCT machine, and invested heavily in a major store relocation to deliver these services efficiently and professionally to their local community.’
