Specsavers Hastings was under new management recently – but only for a day, thanks to a writing competition for local schools.
Seven-year-old Grace Stansbury won the chance to take over the reins at the Priory Meadow Shopping Centre store in a creative writing challenge run by literacy charity Inspire Schools.
New boss in town
Grace spent the day putting the store team through their paces, and proved to be a natural leader who was described as no-nonsense and tough but fair.
Over the course of the day, she had the chance to carry out tasks right across the store including checking staff were wearing their uniforms properly, making sure the store was safe, testing eyes (under supervision) and re-designing the way kids glasses were displayed.
A successful day
Claire Stanbridge, administration manager in Hastings, said: ‘Grace was marvellous. She worked so hard. She pointed out several areas that we could improve on. She was certainly firm, but she was a brilliant boss.
‘The scheme was a first for Sussex, and it went so well we would love to do it again. Grace did inform me she would be available to do every other Tuesday as the boss, so I let my director Rob Lofting know that he could have those afternoons off!’
