A Hartlepool opticians is calling on the next generation of talented opticians to step into the world of Specsavers.
The team at Specsavers in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre are looking to guide talented youngsters interested in optics into an exciting potential career through and sponsorship scheme.
Craig Walker, who is currently training to become an optometrist with Specsavers, could not recommend the experience highly enough.
Craig said: ‘Not very many people know about the career ladder that you can climb at Specsavers. I started as an optical assistant and within three years I was a qualified dispensing optician which was a real achievement for me. It took a further two years to become a contact lens optician.
‘My goal in the next two years is to qualify as an optometrist – this is all thanks to my training through Specsavers.’ Craig continued: ‘I really appreciate the opportunity that Specsavers has given me, I feel that I have progressed extremely well thanks to the support I have had.
‘The sponsorship enables me to study at university whilst also learning on the job and I’ve enjoyed every minute so far.’
A word from the store director
Store director, Ian Walker, said: ‘An apprenticeship is a great way to unlock the potential of those who have just left school or those who are looking for a career change.
‘The Specsavers scheme offers learners an excellent opportunity to enter the world in a secure and structured way, providing them with a real job, great training and qualifications.
‘Craig is a real asset to the team, it is inspiring to see how well he has come on since he joined the team.’
