Staff and customers at Specsavers in Hartlepool have made a real name for themselves as charity fundraisers – by collecting £2,500 for Guide Dogs.
This achievement will allow the store, in Middleton Grange Shopping Store, to name a new born guide dog through Guide Dog’s Name a Puppy Scheme.
Ian Walker, store director of Specsavers Hartlepool, says: ‘Over the last few years we have been raising funds for Guide Dogs and we have just recently reached our £2,500 target.
‘As of yet we do not know what type of dog it may be as it has not been born yet, but we are very excited to for the new arrival.
‘We raised the money by holding cake sales, raffles and tombola’s, as well as asking for donations from our customers who have been incredibly generous.’
The store will receive a puppy pack once the dog has been born, including a photograph of the puppy and a birth certificate.
It costs over £5,000 to breed and train each guide dog, and each dog requires more than £55,000 during its lifetime.
