For the past three years Harlow resident, Sandra Hayes, has been a regional finalist in Specsavers search for Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
In 2017 she was one of six regional finalists chosen in Essex, meaning the county had more than any other in the UK and Ireland combined. Last year’s national winner Alex Miller comes from Silver End near Braintree, suggesting Essex is full of the most glamorous of specs wearers in the country.
Will this year’s winner come from Harlow?
Sarah Flowers, store director at Specsavers Harlow, says: ‘It was a pleasure to have a regional finalist in our town and we are sure that Harlow can produce the next Spectacle Wearer of the Year. I’m looking forward to seeing all the entries.’
Glasses wearers from across Harlow can put themselves forward for the prestigious accolade by visiting specsavers.co.uk/loveglassecomp. Finalists will attend the glamorous awards ceremony in London in October with the overall winner scooping the cash prize.
One pound is donated to Kidscape for each entry made, with the competition raising more than half a million pounds for the anti-bullying charity over the past nine years. Money raised helps to support the charity in providing practical support to children and their families affected by bullying, including phone support, workshops and advice resources.
Open to everyone over 16 years
The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s – plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public. A winner from each category will win a VIP makeover and join a list of celebrities at the awards ceremony in October.
To be in with a chance of snatching the biggest accolade in the specs-wearing world, glasses wearers can enter the competition online. Deadline for entries is 1 July 2018.
