Harlow Specsavers opticians has celebrated 20 years of testing the eyes of local residents and presented its two longest serving members of staff with a specs-inspired cake.

The store opened in December 1993 and staff at the Specsavers Harlow store have cause for a double celebration as long-serving store directors, John Parsons and Elaine Green, have clocked up a combined total of 40 years of service having worked at the store since it opened.

Thanks to all Harlow customers

Both Peter and Elaine have some great memories from their time in store such as helping to save the sight of a number of customers and hosting fundraising days in store for local charities.

John says: ‘I’ve been a director at the store since it opened 20 years ago and I have seen it go from strength to strength. On behalf of everyone at the store I’d like to say how wonderful it has been for us to be part of such a vibrant local community and I’d personally like to thank all of our customers for their continued support. We really couldn’t have done it without them.

I can remember my first day like it was yesterday

I honestly don’t know where the time has gone. I can remember my first day here like it was yesterday. I’m on first name terms with lots of our customers and I can’t help but wonder what I’ll be doing in the next 20 years. I feel very lucky to be part of such a great team.’
