A team member from Harborne Specsavers is lacing up her running shoes and going the extra mile for charity, helping to raise vital funds for Vision Aid Overseas (VAO).
8,000ft above sea level
Shackesha Piere is currently preparing for Africa’s biggest road race, the Great Ethiopian Run. The ten-kilometre race will take place in Ethiopia’s capital city, Addis Ababa which is set 8,000 ft. above sea level.
In order to take part, Shackesha must set her sights on raising £2,600 for VAO and is nearly halfway there.
Once in a lifetime experience
‘So far I’ve raised £1,000 through generous donations from customers, family and friends,’ said Shackesha. ‘I’ve been given an amazing opportunity to support those in need in developing countries and can’t wait to represent Harborne Specsavers. It’s not going to be an easy task but I am really looking forward to the once in a lifetime experience.’
A word from the store director
Harborne store director, Amit Madlani said: ‘We’re really proud of Shackesha for volunteering to take part in the race. It’s for a brilliant cause and we’re so pleased to have a representative of our store there.’
The Harborne team are planning a number of fundraising days to help Shackesha reach her fundraising target and are encouraging the local community to dig deep and support the events.
Amit added: ‘We really hope our customers and the residents of Harborne get behind Shackesha and support her on the journey over to Addis Ababa. VAO is dedicated to fighting poverty by transforming access to eye care in developing countries and Shackesha will be able to see first-hand how important this mission is.’
The race will take place on Sunday 26 November.
