Two team members from Harborne have proven that hard work pays off, after both progressing in their roles to become Store Manager and Assistant Manager.
Becky Berrington and Sophie Jan have their sights set on career development and don’t look like slowing down anytime soon. The Store Manager and Assistant Manager are looking to develop further in their roles with the support of their Store Director, Amit Madlani.
Progression to store manager
Becky (23) started at Harborne as an Optical Assistant in early 2013. After taking a gap year she had the opportunity to join the store, and with a background in media and no experience in optics, she fancied a change.
She said, ‘I was initially studying media but I knew I didn’t want to continue, so decided to take a gap year, which is when the role with Specsavers popped up. I really enjoyed my time as an Optical Assistant but knew I wanted to progress, so I started studying my Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading and Management. As soon as I finish that I am going to begin my Level 3 and potentially look at a Dispensing Optician course in the future.
‘Specsavers really look to support you in any way that they can, and Amit has been a great help in my leadership and management course.’
Assistant manager journey
Sophie (26) supports Becky in her role of Assistant Manager. She initially began her Specsavers journey at Luton where she was a Contact Lens Supervisor, since then she has also been an Ocular Hygienist, before becoming Assistant Manager at Harborne. After a double distinction in health and social care in college, Sophie knew she wanted a career in the healthcare industry.
‘I love my role in the store and hope to complete the next level of my certificate, before studying to become a Dispensing Optician one day.’
A word from the store director
Amit added, ‘I am so proud of both Becky and Sophie. They work so hard in their roles and we are delighted to have them as part of the Harborne team. We look forward to supporting them in their future endeavours.’
