Kaylie Tester is the in-store trainer at Specsavers The Gyle. Here, she fills us in on her favourite parts of the job and how she got to where she is today.
Tell us a bit about yourself
I joined the Gyle Centre team in 2015 as an optical assistant. I’ve now progressed to in-store trainer, delivering support and development to the whole team. I currently live in Grangemouth, and enjoy reading and working out at the gym.
What’s your favourite style of specs?
I really like our new frame releases with lots of colourful styles. I prefer classic shapes and nuances in the metal frames.
Tell us about your job and the experience you have?
Being involved in training and development brings me huge amounts of job satisfaction. Watching colleagues learn and progress, and being instrumental in them reaching their potential means I get to play a part in everyone's career journey. I love it.
Why is it so important to get your eyes checked regularly?
Glaucoma is a leading cause of sight loss, and it can be picked up and treated quickly by ensuring everyone has regular sight tests. In Scotland, everyone is entitled to a free examination, funded by the NHS. We run clinics everyday allowing us to offer an appointment at a time that's convenient.
How can patients book an eye test?
We welcome bookings over the phone, but we now have a quick and easy online booking process too, so you can make an appointment that suits even when the store is closed.
