The Guernsey Specsavers store has raised £1,200 for the Guernsey Macular Support Group.

The store donated £1 from every eye test carried out in March to the charity, which supports people in the isladn with age-related macular degeneration.

Store director Sarah Burchett says: ‘We’re really pleased to be able to donate more than £1,000 to the local support group. More than 1,000 people suffer from some form of macular degeneration in Guernsey and there is currently no cure for the disease. So the group’s work supporting people with the condition is an important part of the community.’

Guernsey Macular Support Group co-founder Bill Gardiner says: ‘We are very grateful for the Specsavers’ support during March. The donation will go towards on-going research and will also allow us to buy an attachment for our public address system, which will improve the sound quality at the charity’s monthly meetings.

The Guernsey Macular Support Group was formed in 2014 to help people suffering from macular conditions by organising talks and giving them the opportunity to meet and socialise with fellow sufferers.
