Grays opticians and audiology experts collected a trolley-full of supplies for a borough foodbank.
The team from Specsavers opticians and audiologists in Grays Shopping Centre championed a campaign to collect emergency food supplies for families in crisis in the area.
A word from the store director
Niki Kaur, store director at Specsavers in Grays, said: ‘Thurrock Foodbank provides assistance to those in our community who are most in need, and we wanted to do what we could to support their efforts.
‘January is a particularly busy month for them, as they work to provide a lifeline for families in crisis following the festive period.
‘Becoming a drop-off point for the foodbank has helped us better understand the important role they play in our community and has renewed our commitment to supporting them in the future.’
A word from the foodbank
Sarah Cordell of Thurrock Foodbank added: ‘There is a real and urgent need in our borough and in the past year Thurrock foodbank has provided food to over 3,500 local people who have received three days supplies of emergency food.
‘The food boxes are each packed with a fixed range of items to provide a balanced and nutritious set of meals for up to three days. ‘All the food is donated locally, in this case from Specsavers in Grays. We would like to thank all the staff and customers for their support.’
Thurrock Foodbank provides short-term emergency food supplies on a referral basis to people and families in crisis. For real-time information on which food supplies are running low at the foodbank, there is also an app available to download called ‘Foodbank’.
