The team at Specsavers in Goole will be joining in with the town's Beach Day celebrations this weekend, to raise money for local teenager Becca Cann, who is receiving treatment in America for a large tumour behind her eye.
On Saturday 1 August, staff will be selling sweets and running a ‘Guess how many frames in the jar’ competition. All the proceeds will be sent to support Becca and her family who are currently in Oklahoma, where Becca is undergoing a 10 week programme of proton beam therapy to treat her optic glioma.
Bringing the beach to Goole
To mark Beach Day, which happens to coincide with Yorkshire Day this year, staff at the store will be dressed for a trip to the beach, digging out their Bermuda shorts and grass skirts to join in with the fun across Goole town centre.
There will be a stall on the pavement just outside the store and as an extra way of attracting passers-by, and for one day only, designer sunglasses will be on sale at less than half price.
Showcasing local talent and celebrating all things Yorkshire, there will be a range of activities in the main shopping precinct, including live music and the return of the much-loved donkeys.
A word from the store director
Rob Winlow, store director at Specsavers in Goole, commented: ‘We look forward to Beach Day every year and 2015 is no exception. We want as many people as possible to visit us on the day and dig deep to support Becca as she undergoes this sight-saving treatment.’
