A Glenrothes optician has helped raise more than £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by taking part in a marathon golf tournament.

Gary Wood from Specsavers in the town personally raised £770 through sponsorship and donations, adding a significant amount to the superb overall total.

No ordinary golf day out

The sponsored Golf Challenge, held at the world renowned Gleneagles course, saw staff from various Specsavers stores across Scotland complete four rounds of golf in one day. The 72 holes which staff successfully accomplished meant that they walked a total of 28 miles to raise funds for the charity.

Gary Wood said, ‘The tournament was certainly no ordinary golf day out but all competitors rose to the challenge and completed the 72 holes within 17 hours.

‘We are delighted with the amount raised for Macmillan Cancer Support as this is a cause close to the hearts of all the team here in Glenrothes. We would like to thank everyone that donated and helped us to reach this superb total.’
