A local Glasgow opticians has pledged its commitment to Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) by taking on the Ben Nevis challenge in aid of the charity in August.
Three staff members from Specsavers Glasgow Forge will be joining a group of volunteers on 17 August to conquer the UK’s tallest mountain, Ben Nevis, to collectively raise vital funds for RNIB.
Angela Lucas, Sufyaan Aslam and Joanne X signed up for the challenge in May and have been fitting in as much training as possible as they gear up towards the big day in August.
Each volunteer that takes part is committed to a fundraising pledge of £495. To reach their pledge the trio has been holding various fundraising activities within the store with the aim of raising as much money as possible for the sight loss charity.
A word from our store director
Angela Lucas, store director at Specsavers Glasgow Forge, said: ‘We are all really looking forward to this big challenge we have set ourselves and to climbing Ben Nevis. I have to admit, we are slightly apprehensive as none of us are experienced hillwalkers. However, we know the support we need is there, and we are all so excited about taking on the UK’s largest mountain to raise money for RNIB. We know it will be worth it when we reach the top.
‘In store, we regularly work with people living with sight loss and RNIB is a great charity that provides practical and emotional support for visually impaired people that we are really proud to support.
‘I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to sponsor us, we are really overwhelmed with the kind donations and it has really kept us going through our training and countdown to our big climb in August.’
