Staff from an opticians in Trongate cycled to success for Sport Relief, clocking up more than 250 km in-store and raising much needed funds for the charity.

The dedicated team from Specsavers cycled non-stop for more than 10 hours in a bid to raise much-needed cash for the charity event which helps vulnerable people in both the UK and the world's poorest countries.

Cycling for change

A biennial charity event from Comic Relief, in association with BBCSport, Sport Relief brings together the worlds of sport and entertainment to raise money which transforms lives across the world’s poorest communities.

Customers donated cash throughout the day, motivating staff members as they embarked on the gruelling cycling task. Personal trainers from PureGym in Hope Street were also on-hand to offer participants encouragement along with tips on how to reach their 250 km goal.

'A real team effort'

Dave Quigley, store director at Specsavers in Trongate, said: ‘We are delighted to have raised vital funds for such a worthy charity campaign.

‘The cycle was a real team effort with each staff member contributing their time to clock up the 250km we set ourselves at the start of the event.

‘Specsavers Trongate would like to thank all customers for their kind donations while visiting the store and we look forward to handing more than £150 over to Sports Relief.’
