Six members of staff from the Forfar opticians have raised over £800 for Stepping Stones Playgroup by completing a sponsored mountain climb to the summit of Ben Nevis.
Vital funds to cover running costs
The local playgroup must raise at least £2,000 in donations per year in order to ensure the facility stays open. Money raised contributes towards art supplies, playgroup trips and replacing outdated resources.
Store director Blair Michie, who scaled the 1344 metre peak alongside his colleagues, said: ‘It was a pleasure to donate such a great amount to a fantastic local resource.
‘Climbing Ben Nevis was an amazing experience and we were really spurred on knowing that we had the support of everyone who sponsored us.’
Stepping Stones is a long established playgroup for children aged between two and a half and five years old and is based in the Community Learning Wing at Forfar Academy. The playgroup plans to move to a new purpose built classroom in when the town’s new Community Hub opens next year.
Gail Longmuir, acting manager at Stepping Stones Playgroup, said: ‘I’d like to thank Specsavers for its support.
‘Donations like this are a fabulous boost to us and we really appreciate the effort the store’s staff put in to raise funds for us.
‘We’re currently liaising with our children and their parents and carers to decide what resources to buy.’
