The Forfar opticians has raised more than £2,200 for charities and good causes in the past year.

Specsavers in Forfar held a number of fundraising events in 2017, with proceeds donated to charities including Alzheimer's Research UK and Vision Aid Overseas (VAO).

The store more than doubled its annual fundraising total, with £1,000 raised for causes in 2016.

Optometrist Jayne Smeaton will visit Ghana in February for two weeks to help VAO continue its vital work in the country.

Staff at the store have helped to cover the cost of the trip by holding a weekly raffle offering customers the chance to win back the cost of their glasses.

A word from the store director

Blair Michie, store director at Specsavers in Forfar, said: ‘I am very proud of our staff for raising a superb amount for two important causes.

‘Jayne is looking forward to her trip to Ghana and I know she’ll be a vital asset to the VAO team.

‘We’d like to thank customers for helping us to raise more than £2,000 for VAO and Alzheimer’s Research UK.’

Staff also completed the ‘Running Down Dementia’ challenge for Alzheimer’s Research UK which saw them run, walk, swim and cycle further than the equivalent of John O’Groats to Lands’ End.
