Simon Wain has been the store director of Specsavers in Fareham for 25 years. Born in Bradford, he spent some years of his life in Australia and Scotland before moving to New Forest.
Pursuing the path of optometry
Simon has previously worked as a physics teacher and in sales and retail franchising, but decided to move into optometry after completing a BSc in Sport Science at Chichester University.
‘Specsavers was an exciting retail opportunity in 1990 with very defined objectives. It was an exciting time and very rewarding, providing eye care to everyone at such competitive prices.’
‘I love the buzz of the retail environment and we really enjoy our staff and customer interaction. This is a very complex aspect of high street retailing and keeps you on your toes all the time. There are so many parts to the journey that you never get bored.’
Simon lives with his wife, Shelley, and his three children and they are expecting their fourth child this September. Outside of work, he enjoys sailing and racing power boats, as well as restoring property.
