The opticians in Falkirk is encouraging contact lens wearers to keep an eye on their hygiene after new research by the General Optical Council for Love Your Lenses Week (24-30 March) revealed that more than one in four (28%) contact lens wearers aged 18-24 don’t always wash their hands before handling their contact lenses.

Reducing the chance of infection

Jonathan Cawley, store director at Specsavers in Falkirk said: ‘Contact lenses are safe when used properly but touching or rubbing your eye with unclean hands can spread infections so it is important to wash and dry your hands thoroughly every time you touch your eye.

‘We advise contact lens wearers to book an appointment for a check-up every year so we can monitor your eye health and ensure you are using the best lenses to suit your needs.’
