Disadvantaged people in Exmouth have benefitted from a successful partnership between Specsavers and a charity food bank.

The initiative saw Specsavers in Exmouth acting as a food collection point for two weeks from Monday 12 May for the town’s food bank: Salvation Army Headquarters, Shepherds Row, Exmouth. Store staff donated vital food supplies encouraged customers to do the same.

Local people

Ria Heskins, store director of Specsavers Exmouth, says: ‘We were shocked at how many people in the area rely on food donations to feed their family from week-to-week. Hunger is not just a problem in the developing world; as a community we have a responsibility to help those in desperate need living in and around Exmouth.

Community larder

‘We’re collected everything from tins of beans to pasta and rice, which we then deliver to the local community larder.’ The food bank network is run by the Salvation Army, which works in 126 countries.
