From Monday 20 June through to Saturday 25 June staff in Exmouth will be joining forces with Exmouth Cares, an Alzheimer’s Society support shop, to raise funds for the care of those with this devastating disease.
Throughout the week the team will be carrying out repairs, adjustments and MOT’s on glasses in return for donations. On the Saturday there will be a prize draw to win a pair of designer glasses, as well as a jumble sale of clothes and bric-a-brac sale outside the store. All funds raised will be donated to the charity shop.
Staff at the store have also become Dementia Friends, an Alzheimer’s Society initiative, to help people develop an understanding of dementia and to support customers and employees who are affected by the condition.
Dementia Friends is an online training programme that entails watching a series of scenario based videos, followed by a classroom session which builds on the skills, helping participants to wage positive relationships with people with dementia. The staff can now wear badge on their uniforms to indicate their increased level of dementia awareness to their customers
Show you care
Ria Heskins, store director, said: ‘Being more aware of dementia is an incredibly positive development for our team and our offering to customers. The training has opened my eyes to how at Specsavers, when performing our daily duties, we can all take a little time to support and care. We now know the difference that any funds we raise will make to those that are affected and so we welcome all donations.'
