This glaucoma awareness week, Specsavers Exeter were proud to announce that customers can now learn more about glaucoma and its treatment from staff before they reach the testing room.

The silent thief of sight

Often symptomless in its early stages, glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible sight loss. It is thought to affect 700,000 people in the UK today, but as many as 50% of cases are undiagnosed*.

Ready to answer any question

Staff member, Vicky Cunningham, passed the training. She said: ‘After learning about how many people were risking losing their sight due to glaucoma, I was keen to learn more from a clinical perspective so I could answer patients’ questions.

‘The course has taught us a huge amount and I feel confident now in helping our patients understand if they are at risk and most importantly confidence in reassuring them.’
