Exeter Specsavers is pleased to announce they have officially become a Mindful Employer, recognising the need to help their employees with mental health in the workplace.

What is a Mindful Employer?

Mindful Employer was developed by employers in Exeter and launched in 2004. Initially developed as a local initiative, it has since reached businesses throughout the UK and launched globally to support people with a mental health condition to find or remain in employment.

Voluntary commitment

Specsavers Exeter has signed the Charter, one part of the initiative, a voluntary commitment about working towards the principles of being a Mindful Employer.

The principles of the Charter include raising awareness of mental health, providing support to anyone who has a mental health condition and demonstrating commitment to the mental wellbeing of the team.

A word from the director

Exeter store director, Emma Denham, said: ‘Mental health is an important issue and one that should not be ignored by any employer. We can all accept illness when it is physical but we should learn more about mental illness and be happy talk about it openly.

‘Mindful Employer has provided us with practical help and advice in how to support employees who may have mental health needs and we are proud to be part of such a successful initiative that was born in Exeter.’
