A kind-hearted Wallington optician is set to don his lycra and cycling helmet as he prepares to take part in a 550-mile charity bike ride.

Charity cycle

A dispensing optician from the Epsom store will cycle from Folkestone to Edinburgh Castle in a bid to raise £2,000 for Toybox, a charity which helps children living on the streets in Central and South America.

Dan Smithard, 27, will take on the challenge with his two brothers, Luke and Micah, and his father David. Dan will cover more than 550 miles across three days in the charity cycle.

A worthwhile effort

Dan said: ‘I’m thrilled to be supporting Toybox. The work they carry out to give children a future will make every mile of this challenge so worthwhile.

‘Although I’m a little nervous about the bike ride, I’m pleased to be taking part along with my family. Specsavers has offered so much support and staff at the store have really got behind my fundraising efforts, so I’d like to thank everyone for their help.’

Store director at Specsavers in Epsom, Glen MacGregor, said: ‘It’s great to see Dan taking part in such an epic cycle. The team always likes to get behind charity fundraisers so I hope we can help Dan and his family in raising as much money as possible for this fantastic cause.’

The team is hoping to raise £2,000 for the charity. Anyone wishing to make a donation can visit the store or the team’s Virgin Money Giving page
