The Enniskillen store is a regular supporter of the Ladies section of Castlehume Golf Club and each May sponsors their annual May Bonanza Golf Day. With lockdown in full flow during May of this year, the competition naturally couldn’t take place.
However, store director Ronan and the team wanted to continue their support for the ladies committee and provided two vouchers for the club to use during the summer.
Earlier in the year Lady Captain Bridie McCaffrey had been in hospital due to COVID-19, from which she is now thankfully recovered. The Ladies committee decided to organise a fund-raising golf competition with the vouchers as prizes and monies raised donated to NHS staff locally.
£1000 raised for NHS staff
The event generated an amazing £1000 for the staff at the South West Acute Hospital.
The cash was used to purchase and create several special hampers packed full of toiletries for all hospital staff to avail of.
Bridie says, ‘We did some research to find out what medical, nursing and ancillary staff really needed. The feedback was a wide range of toiletries as staff can’t leave the hospital after being on duty until they have showered and washed their hair.
Practical help on a daily basis
‘It’s a very practical and immediate way of helping staff on a daily basis and it was a pleasure and a privilege to be able to present hampers to staff in several different wards. Everyone was thrilled and so thankful.’
Ronan congratulates Ladies Golf Committee
Store partner Ronan Rice congratulated Castlehume on their fundraising efforts saying: ‘It’s a fantastic result and I know the Ladies Committee members worked very hard organising the golf event and putting together the hampers. Staff at the South West Hospital really deserve this boost and the whole community here in Fermanagh very much appreciates what they have done for us this year.’
