Local Eltham resident Carol Ezeji has been named a regional finalist in Specsavers’ annual search for its UK Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
What is Spectacle Wearer of the Year?
Spectacle Wearer of the Year is a competition run annually, that encourages glasses wearers from across the nation, aged 16 and over, to show off their specs style by sharing their selfies online throughout spring and summer.
The awards for 2018 were launched by Steps star Claire Richards earlier this year. There are five age categories – 16-24; 25-34; 35-44; 45-59 and over 60, plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public. All age category winners will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.
If Carol makes it through to the finals, she could follow in the footsteps of last year’s Award winner, Love Island 2018 contestant Alex Miller, winning £10,000 and the chance to mingle with celebrities at the annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards in October.
41-year-old Carol has beaten off thousands in the South East to become a regional finalist in the 35-44-year age category.
The chemistry teacher and mum of four said she noticed the competition when she was on Facebook and thought that she would snap a photo and enter because she had nothing to lose.
Carol visited the Eltham store earlier this month to meet store director, Michael Williams and collect her bottle of champagne, regional finalist certificate and a £125 eyewear voucher to spend in store.
A word from the store director
Michael says: ‘We are thrilled to have such a stylish spec wearer represent Eltham at the competition final. It would be an amazing highlight for us to have a winner from the area and we feel very optimistic about her potential to go all the way. Our fingers are crossed that Carol brings home the Spectacle Wearer of the Year accolade.’
