To mark National Road Safety Week, Specsavers Eccles pledged to raise awareness about road safety among local school children by donating high visibility vests to local primary schools.
Vests for three schools
The Eccles store has donated 33 vests each to three primary schools in the area; St Andrews Church of England Primary School on Barton Lane, Clarendon Road Primary School and St Marys RC Primary School on Hemming Drive. The vests were presented by Jo Lindley of Specsavers on The Mall, Eccles.
Una Martin, store director at Specsavers Eccles comments: ‘At this time of year with the dark mornings and nights, combined with increasingly wintery weather, it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians. Many children are walking home from school at dusk, which is a particularly hazardous time.

‘With this in mind, we decided to help increase the safety of hundreds of children in the area to spread the message of Road Safety Week by donating 100 high visibility vests to local schools.
‘As part of the initiative, we are also hoping to raise awareness of free glasses and eye tests that are available to under 16-year-olds. Regular eye tests are important, as early detection can reduce the risk of serious eye problems in the long term.’
