Staff at Specsavers in East Kilbride raised around £600 in aid of lung cancer charity, Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
Raising awareness of Roy Castle
The donation follows a Scotland-wide fundraising initiative in memory of a much-loved colleague, Specsavers director, Tom Simpson, who sadly died in March 2018 after battling lung cancer.
The East Kilbride store donated £1 per sight test from 15 – 22 July and organised additional activities to help boost the fundraising total including a raffle, the chance to win a £125 gift voucher by correctly guessing the correct number of specs in a jar, bake sale and specs MOTs in return for donations.
A word from the store director
Store director Shirley-Ann Kennedy, said: ‘Tom was well-known by many Specsavers staff across Scotland, having worked for the company for more than 19 years.
‘Despite fighting lung cancer for over four years, Tom dedicated lots of his time to raising awareness for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation while highlighting the lack of funding available to investigate and treat the disease.
‘We were very proud to join Specsavers stores across the country to help continue his amazing work.’
