Opticians across Lanarkshire raised more than £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support in a charity football match.
This year’s Specsavers charity game, now in its third year, saw staff from the Airdrie and Hamilton stores join forces to take on a team from the East Kilbride store.
The Lanarkshire derby at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie ended with a final score of 5-3 to East Kilbride – and raised £1,589 for the cause.
Shirley-Ann Kennedy, store director at Specsavers in East Kilbride is delighted with the fundraising total, she said: ‘Macmillan is a charity which carries out fantastic work across the UK and means a great deal to so many people.
‘This is the third year of the charity game and it’s really gathering momentum. Each player has received sponsorship money and customers across the stores have been so generous.
‘We’re very proud to be able to raise so much money and congratulations to everyone involved.’
Donation to Macmillan Cancer Support
Angela McCormack, Senior Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support is very grateful for the donation, said: ‘Thank you so much to the staff at Specsavers, their friends and families for raising this fantastic sum for Macmillan.
‘I was delighted to go along to their Hamilton store to be presented with a cheque for the funds raised at their annual charity football match. This generous donation will help reach and improve the lives of more people affected by cancer in Lanarkshire."
