A customer at Specsavers in East Kilbride has secured a spot as the only Scottish finalist at the Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards, being selected from thousands of people across the UK and Ireland.
Mingle with the stars
51-year-old Karen Adam came first in her age category of 45-59 and will get to mingle with the stars at the 20th annual awards ceremony in London in October. Karen is now a step closer to winning the massive prize of £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas.
Karen, a health screening specialist from Lanark, has worn specs since she was 25 years-old. It was actually her husband Gary that entered Karen into the competition as he believes his gorgeous wife stands a good chance of winning.
Over the moon
She said: ‘I love wearing my specs and think that you can get some really great, fashionable frames.
‘I’m so glad that my husband entered me into the competition – I had a fantastic time collecting my champagne and certificate from the East Kilbride store and can’t wait to go to the awards ceremony in London.
‘I’m absolutely over the moon to be a finalist!’
Shirley-Ann Kennedy, store director at Specsavers in East Kilbride said: ‘All our staff are absolutely delighted that Karen has been chosen as a finalist.
‘When Karen visited the store to be presented with her champagne and certificate, several members of the team commented on how fantastic she looked in her specs.
‘We all have our fingers crossed that Karen will be announced as the winner on 6 October.’
Dream holiday and cash prize
Karen will meet Spice Girl and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton, who launched the competition earlier this year, as well as a whole host of specs wearing celebs at the awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue.
All age category winners will have a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the most prestigious title in specs wearing at the grand finale. The winner of The Spectacle Wearer of the Year will receive £10,000, a week’s holiday for two in the Bahamas courtesy of Atlantis Paradise Island and a wardrobe of specs to suit every style.
