The team at Specsavers Dunstable is delighted to receive an accolade of excellence following a survey with optometry graduates.
Investing in tomorrow’s talent
For the last 10 years, Specsavers in Dunstable has opened its doors to pre-registered optometrists, helping them to gain the necessary experience to work confidently within the industry. This year, optometry students completed a month-long placement with the store director, Dr Kaka. During this period, they got to see and experience all the aspects of an opticians ahead of embarking on their final year of studies.
Hands on experience
Each year, the whole team get involved, and thoroughly enjoy imparting their knowledge which includes paediatrics, contact lenses and pre-screening. Students get to shadow eye examinations, carry out dispensing tasks and spend time in the lab. Then there is the important retail aspect, advising and interacting with customers daily.
Dr Kaka, store director said: 'Each year, our aim is to train pre-registered optometrists to the highest possible clinical standard and make them competent and confident enough to qualify at the end of the year. We are delighted to report that over 90% of our students have passed at first attempt. Further testament to the team’s dedication to students is that often, qualified students become a member of the Specsavers Dunstable team. It reflects the professionalism and friendliness of our staff.'
