A Dundee woman has made it through to the next stage of the renowned Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Wearing specs with style
Audrey Jackson (47) has been announced as a semi-finalist in the 45-59 age category in the national competition which celebrates those who wear their specs with style.
She said: ‘I was so shocked and delighted to find out I had made it to the next stage of the competition. I came across the Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards on Facebook one evening and decided to submit a selfie as I often receive compliments on my specs style.
‘I initially put off getting glasses when I discovered I needed them but I’ve really embraced wearing them in the past few years.’
Audrey, a business consultant for First Data, is one of only ten semi-finalists to make it through to the next stage of the Specsavers competition in Scotland. If crowned the winner, she will win a trip to New York and £10,000.
Audrey was welcomed to the Dundee store by director Tony Caffrey, who presented her with a certificate, £150 gift voucher and a bottle of champagne.
Tony said: ‘Like Audrey, some people can be apprehensive about wearing glasses but she is a great example of someone who has grown in confidence as she realised that, as well as being a necessity, they can actually reflect your personality and be a source of compliments.
‘All our staff are rooting for Audrey – we hope she makes it through to the next stage of the competition to represent Dundee at the awards ceremony in London.’
Now in its 21st year, the competition raises valuable funds for anti-bullying charity Kidscape, which has totalled £300,000 to date. This year’s competition was launched by former Pussycat Doll, Kimberly Wyatt, and champions looking and feeling great in your specs.
The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public. A winner from each category will win a VIP makeover and will mingle with celebrities at a central London awards ceremony in October.
