The team at Specsavers in the Loreburne Shopping Centre in Dumfries supported and sponsored a member of staff through a three-year qualification – and has congratulated her on her success.
The store sponsored trainee dispensing optician Corrie Widdowson (21) on the Association of British Dispensing Opticians course at the ABDO College in Godmersham, Kent, and the dedicated student passed with flying colours.
Corrie started working in the store when she was just 16 and was keen to develop her skills to the level required to become an optician. The store saw great potential in Corrie and decided to sponsor her through the three-year qualification.
She passed her exams in August this year and now has a Diploma of Fellowship of British Dispensing Opticians.
Corrie said: ‘I really enjoyed the course – it was such a fantastic opportunity and I couldn’t have done it without help and support from the store. I started studying for the qualification at quite a young age, so I feel that completing it successfully is a really big accomplishment.
‘I’m absolutely delighted and so grateful to the store. I’m looking forward to developing my skills in my role as a dispensing optician.’
Corrie is the eighth dispensing optician that the store has sponsored in 21 years.
Store director Jill Dickson said: ‘Supporting Corrie through the course was a great opportunity for Corrie and also for us as a business. We saw she had a lot of potential when she first joined us and knew that she was keen to progress, so it made sense for us to support her throughout the course.
‘Corrie is an integral part of the team and we wanted to give her the opportunity to gain the qualification to develop her skills and to add to our skillset as a store.
‘We’re very proud of her for what she has achieved.’
