Two members of staff from Specsavers in Droitwich have been recognised for their excellent customer service following the achievement of Customer First Awards.

Optical assistant, Eloise Smith, and optical apprentice, Shabbar Hasan, were both delighted to receive an award of excellence, each for going the extra mile.

Fabulous team at Droitwich

Store director Emma Singh said: ‘I couldn't be prouder! I have a fabulous team who continually surprise me going above and beyond the call of duty for our patients. This award is the recognition which proves that hard and team work really does pay off. Well done guys!'

The Customer First Award is measured on three different aspects. It’s about building relationships with customers, maximising market awareness and development within the team.

Dementia Friends

A customer had visited the store for his DVLA test but after finishing his appointment had forgotten where he’d parked his car.

Both Eloise and Shabbar are Dementia Friends trained so could quickly identify the distress this was causing and offered their assistance in helping him. After searching around town, they managed to locate the vehicle parked in a nearby side street.

Eloise said: ‘I feel the natural need to help others both within the store and outside of the working environment where possible. I didn't think twice about helping the gentleman. I instantly asked my director for the time to help him as he was alone and needed reassurance and guidance.

‘Being a Dementia Friend, I could assess the situation and take the appropriate action and it has now inspired me to go on and complete the classroom training course to further support colleagues and patients.’

Shabbar added: ‘I wanted to help the patient because he was an older person and I knew I couldn't leave him on his own. I felt like I could help him and I wanted to make sure he found his car.

'What I've realised from working at Specsavers is that it’s not just about selling frames, it's also about the service you provide and understanding the patients’ needs and trying to help them to the best of my ability.’
