An opticians in Doncaster is calling on the ‘support’ of local women and encouraging them to donate their unwanted bras to raise money for a breast cancer charity.

A new lease of life for old bras
Specsavers in Doncaster is urging women of all ages to give their old bras a new lease of life by donating them to its bra amnesty, which aims to raise money for the Against Breast Cancer charity.

All bras donated will be weighed and a donation will be made to Against Breast Cancer, depending on the weight of the bras collected. The bras will then be shipped out to regions in Africa, where there is a short supply of affordable bras.

Speaking about the amnesty Mel Wheater, store manager at Specsavers in Doncaster, said: ‘Bras are complex to manufacture, so few developing countries have facilities to make their own. That’s why we’re calling on our loyal female customers to clear out their underwear drawers and drop any unwanted bras into our in-store bra bank.

‘Our customers have always been great when it comes to getting behind our charitable efforts and we hope they’ll be just as supportive this time around.’
