Specsavers in Diss can now announce that since the start of their efforts in January, they have collected 500 pairs of glasses to donate to the Lions Club, supporting local charities, causes and individuals within the local community.
Setting sight on the community
The Lions Recycle for Sight program sees collection of used and unwanted glasses, which are then delivered to regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centres (LERCs). LERC volunteers then clean, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses. Recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in low and middle income communities where they will have the greatest impact.
Donate to make a difference
The store has been overwhelmed by the generosity of customers and local residents and, after seeing the impact of the donations, are urging anyone with a pair of unused glasses lying around to pop in store.
Store director Simon Hill says: ‘Our collection boxes are always full of frames, which is great to see. There’s so many simple ways that you can help others and the Recycle for Sight program highlights this. Something as simple as dropping your old specs in store can really make a difference. Your unwanted glasses could change a life!’
