Dispensing optician Ned Saunders from Didcot's Specsavers store has completed a gruelling 190km bike ride, raising more than £300 for Optometry Giving Sight.
Ned cycled for around eight hours to complete the 190km route between Leeds and Harrogate, taking in views of the Yorkshire countryside. Cycling fans may recognise the route as being Stage One of this year’s Tour de France.
‘I’m a really keen cyclist, so it was exciting to complete the route which formed part of the Tour de France,’ said Ned, Dispensing Optician. ‘It was a pretty tough route, so the training I put in beforehand really paid off and I managed to complete it in a decent time.’
The money raised from the event will support Optometry Giving Sight in its mission to eliminate avoidable blindness amongst the 600 million people globally who are blind or vision impaired due to not having access to eyecare. By training local eyecare professionals and establishing vision centres, the charity is able to deliver eyecare and low cost glasses, improving people’s quality of life and education chances.
