Three members of staff at Specsavers in Devizes are celebrating following the completion of their Cert 3 qualifications.

Lab technician, Ashley Kostyszyn, and optical assistants Poppy Wildman and Katie Forshaw, have all passed the internal Specsavers course, which covers all aspects of optics including dispensing specs to customers, the anatomy of the eye, vision types and contact lenses.

Developing skills

Store director Karen Carvallo commented: ‘We’re delighted that Poppy, Ashley and Katie have all passed their Cert 3 exams – a big well done to all three of them. We’re committed to supporting our staff and it’s always a pleasure to see our hardworking team develop their skills and progress their careers.’

Poppy joined the Devizes team in July 2015 and is hoping to focus her skills in the store’s hearing centre, while Katie, also a team member since 2015, is using her experience in a local schools project to encourage young people to consider a career in optics.

Lab technician, Ashley, has been a member of staff since 2014. Starting his career in dispensing, he took on a leading role in the store’s lab following the departure of the lab manager and works hard to produce finished specs to the highest standards.

The trio were supervised in their training by dispensing optician, Hilary Farroll. She said: ‘Poppy, Ashley and Katie are a real credit to the team here. They worked hard to pass their exams and I look forward to seeing them apply their new-found skills.’
