Aspiring bakers from Specsavers in Devizes have raised £100 for Wiltshire Sight after asking customers to critique their baking skills.

On Friday 3 October, staff baked up a range of sweet treats and customers were invited to sample the cakes and rate them on their taste throughout the day. Maggie Hemmings, from Wiltshire Sight, was also on hand to judge the cakes in terms of presentation. Maggie declared store manager, Karen Carvallo as the winner, for her perfectly presented cake.

Customers were asked for a voluntary donation to the charity in return for taste-testing each cake and casting their vote.  The winner for the tastiest cake was Polly Seager for her carrot cake.

Karen Carvallo, store director, said: ‘I’m so pleased to have won the title for ‘best presented’ cake. And well done to Polly for baking the tastiest cake! Thanks also to all of the staff who helped raised such a fantastic amount for such a great cause.’

All of the money raised will go to Wiltshire Sight who provide much-needed support, advice, information, training and social activities to people living with sight loss.
