Specsavers in Derry is partnering with North West Cricket Union to support a series of Junior League programmes across Under 11,13 and U15 participation levels.

450 young people and 23 clubs

The youth leagues programme engages with over 450 boys and girls, playing cricket at 23 clubs based at various cricket locations, from Ardmore, Brigade and Glendermott to Eglinton, New Buildings, Ballyspallen and Bond’s Glen, Claudy.

Kids’ Blitz Day

The Cricket Union will host a Kids’ Blitz Day alongside North West Warriors T20 home matches. These are designed for all the family to get together for an energetic and fun packed day.

Sean McCauley, store director said, ‘We’re pleased to be involved with cricket youth programmes in the North West region. Specsavers has an ongoing association with county cricket and youth programmes across the water and our local cricket development squads provided an excellent opportunity to extend that support to cricket locally.’

Thanking Sean and his store director colleagues, Peter McCartney, general manager at North West Cricket Union said: ‘Specsavers backing will help us enhance and extend our youth programme offer in the North West area and encourage more young people to take up cricket and more parents and extended family members to assist us as volunteers.'

Progressive youth structure

Peter added: ‘In recent years we have developed and progressed our youth structure including expanding our academy, coaching clinics, indoor cricket leagues regional development squad coaching programmes. Our new partnership with Specsavers will help us to further promote the game and invest for sustained future success.’
