Specsavers in Derby has given a local man a free supply of contact lenses, to help him continue his active fundraising for Parkinson’s UK.
Specsavers in Derby have recognised the efforts of Bernard Docherty, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease himself and has been fundraising for several years for the charity, with three months of contact lenses free of charge after he visited the store. Bernard has become a local hero after cycling 101 miles around Derbyshire, raising more than £4,000 for Parkinson’s UK.
‘After hearing Bernard’s amazing story, we thought it was the least we could do,’ explained store director Uan Gohil. ‘It’s an amazing achievement and it’s great for the community to have such a local hero.’
