Aisling Morris (22) completed her pre-reg year in Specsavers in Darlington and is now a fully qualified optometrist.
Originally from Omagh, she studied at Ulster University for her three-year optometry degree.
She chose Darlington after seeing the position advertised in her university and was particularly impressed that she would be trained by Dr Nigel Best, one of the first British opticians with a Doctor of Optometry degree. She said she also opted for the location as she has family close by including her brother Conor who is also a Specsavers optometrist.
Best in the UK
She said: ‘I always wanted to join Specsavers’ pre-reg programme as I had heard that it really is the best in the UK.
‘During my pre-reg year I was testing eyes, helping patients with their contact lenses and dispensing glasses. I love being here and I plan to stay with Specsavers now I am qualified.’
A word from the store director
Store director and optometrist, Gery Learmont said: ‘We were really pleased to have the opportunity to support Aisling through her pre-reg year. She has had the benefit of receiving invaluable, hands-on experience and is already a valued member of the Specsavers team. We hope Aisling continues to flourish in this challenging and enjoyable environment.’
