The Specsavers Cwmbran team recently surprised the store’s director with a ‘long service award’ to celebrate more than a decade with the company.
Mark Edwards, 49, joined the store as a retail director in 2015, after working as a retail development consultant for a number of years.
In his previous role, he worked with 80 Specsavers stores across the UK to boost sales and profits. He also supported the opening of new branches, including one of the first in Australia, before moving back to South Wales.
Mr Edwards’ colleagues surprised him with a ‘long service award’ presentation in-store and showered him with gifts to thank him for his work with the company.
‘I never expected there to be a celebration like this,’ Mr Edwards says. ‘Apparently, a number of staff members were planning the surprise for some time. They organised a certificate and gifts. We are fortunate to have nurtured a family environment at the store, I see my colleagues show kindness and compassion to our customers daily. It’s a privilege to be part of such a warm and hard-working team.’
Mr Edwards oversees all elements of retail operations at the Cwmbran Shopping Centre store, including customer service, staffing and strategic development.
‘I’ve been lucky enough to work in a variety of different retail roles, supporting directors with their business needs in the UK and beyond,’ he says. ‘Being able to bring this experience to a store local to where I grew up, and now live, has been really rewarding and highlights the opportunities available with a career at Specsavers.’
