Specsavers in Crossgates has thanked the local community for donating food in store to help the homeless this Christmas.

The team placed a shopping trolley inside the store and urged the public to drop off food items such as tinned fruits and vegetables, pasta, soups and biscuits. Everything that was kindly donated by the public was given to local charity St George’s Crypt.

Community comes together

A Leeds-based homeless charity that supports those living on the streets to make positive choices in their lifestyle, St George’s Crypt is a cause that staff at the Crossgates store work with regularly, volunteering weekly and providing eye tests and services for the homeless.

Bhrat Phakey, store director at Specsavers in Crossgates, said: ‘Everyone deserves to have something for Christmas, so we called for the community to come together and donate anything they can to help. A little goes a long way, so even if one person donated one item it will help give many more a merry Christmas.’
