Could it be fourth time lucky for Brian? It could be fourth time lucky for local man Brian O’Neill as he once again has been announced as a regional finalist in Specsavers’ annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
The 65-year-old was presented with a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 Specsavers voucher, by Specsavers Craigavon store director, JP Rice.
Winner in NI ‘Over 60s’ category
The Dungannon man, who is a customer of Specsavers in Rushmere Shopping Centre, was voted as a winner in the Northern Ireland over 60s age category.
He will now go forward to the next round of judging, competing against finalists from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales for a place in the prestigious final, where one overall winner will walk away with a cash prize of £10,000 and the coveted title Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2017.
Fourth Time Lucky
Brian says: ‘This is the fourth time I’ve reached the regional finals of the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition and once again I’m delighted to be shortlisted.
‘First and foremost, I wear glasses as a necessity and have been doing so for the past 25 years. But my glasses are without a doubt an accessory too. Right now, I have a collection of probably 10 to 12 pairs for every occasion and style and purchase up to two new pairs every year. My background is in men’s fashion, so my glasses play an important part of my daily style and have formed part of my personality too.
‘I’d like to wish every regional finalist the best of luck with the rest of the competition.’
Star-studded awards ceremony in London
Now in its 22nd year, the competition will give regional finalists from five age categories: 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s, plus a Facebook favourite voted by the public – the opportunity to attend a star-studded awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on 10 October, which will be hosted by former Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle.
