A Cardiff University graduate who set his sights on a career in optics during a school work experience stint has returned to South Wales to become a director at Specsavers in Cowbridge.
Joining a thriving store
Andy Moss, 31, from Suffolk, joins co-directors Hannah Davies and Adam Thomas at the thriving high street store more than 15 years after completing a work experience stint at Specsavers in Ipswich.
Mr Moss became a part-time optical assistant in 2002 before completing a three-year course to become a dispensing optician. In 2010, he moved to Wales to study optometry at Cardiff University, graduating as a qualified optometrist. He worked at Specsavers in Woodbridge, East Anglia before taking a six-month role at Specsavers Fremantle in Perth, Australia.
Before returning to Wales, Mr Moss completed Pathway – a Specsavers programme aimed at training staff members to become business partners.
‘Exciting’ career step
‘This is an exciting next step in my career, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous,’ he says. ‘Fortunately, everyone has been very welcoming, and I’m looking forward to using my expertise to support the growth of the business.’
Mr Moss’ appointment comes just months after the store was first opened by Ms Davies and Mr Thomas, who have been directors of the Specsavers in Talbot Green for the last five years.
‘The team has set the bar high, and I am looking forward to helping continue the great work that’s underway at the store,’ he says. ‘Our aim is to ensure the people of Cowbridge have a local opticians they know they can rely on to provide the best quality of eye care.’
Ms Davies adds: ‘Andy’s optical experience, combined with his enthusiasm for community-focused events, made him the perfect fit for our growing team. He’s worked his way up the ladder at Specsavers, and his clinical background will offer fresh insight into ways we can improve our services for the good of existing and new customers.’
