The mayor of Cowbridge joined local residents for an Easter-themed party to mark the official launch of the town’s new Specsavers store.

Councillor Siân Vaughan and her consort, Rob Vaughan, enjoyed a jam-packed day of Easter fun at the new High Street store.

The pair drew a raffle that saw one of the first 200 customers in-store receive a full refund on the cost of their purchase, and chose the winner of an Easter-themed colouring competition. There was also an Easter egg hunt and Specsavers staff handed out goody bags to children in-store.

Later, Mrs and Mr Vaughan were given a tour of the facilities and learned more about its state-of-the-art technology, including an optical coherence tomography machine, which can be used to spot signs of eye conditions such as glaucoma.

Easter celebrations

‘We are pleased that Mrs and Mr Vaughan were able to come along and join in with our Easter activities,’ says the store’s co-director Hannah Davies, who runs both the new Cowbridge and Talbot Green Specsavers with Adam Thomas.

‘We have received a warm welcome from new customers and those who used to travel to Talbot Green, and our Easter celebrations were a way for us to show our appreciation’, Ms Davies continued.

Ms Davies and Mr Thomas invested £331,000 in the 1,286 square-foot premises, which also offers audiology services one day a week. The store employs seven members of staff, including three new trainee optical assistants.

Specsavers in Cowbridge is keen to support local causes and recently sponsored Cowbridge RFC’s second annual ‘mini and junior festival’, giving out a number of eye care-themed gifts to the hundreds of children and families in attendance.

Looking forward to the future

‘As a community-oriented business, organising and supporting local events is important to us, in addition to the primary eye care services we can provide from the high street,’ Ms Davies says.

‘Sponsoring the recent rugby festival was wonderful and we’re hoping to lend similar support to other fantastic community-focused events taking place in Cowbridge. We’ve had a great first month here and look forward to seeing what the future holds for our store.’
