Children, families, the homeless and older people in need across Colwyn Bay didn't believe their eyes this Christmas, thanks to Specsavers Colwyn Bay, its customers and the Salvation Army.

Christmas Present Appeal

The store on Sea View Road, Colwyn Bay, partnered with the Salvation Army in its annual Christmas Present Appeal, acting as a drop off point for gift donations for people in the area who would otherwise receive nothing this year.

Presents were donated in early December, allowing time for the Salvation Army to distribute gifts via social services before Christmas.

Presents should be unwrapped

Donations included dolls, teddy bears, stationary, DVDs, books, puzzles, and non-allergic make up and clothes for teens. They were all donated unwrapped, so that they could be distributed to the most suitable recipients.

Erica Chapman, store director at Specsavers Colwyn Bay, said: ‘We all agreed in store that we wanted to do something for those less fortunate in the area this Christmas.

'It's hard to imagine how it must feel'

‘You can’t avoid Christmas – so it’s hard to imagine how it must feel if you don’t expect to receive a single gift, card, or Christmas wish at this time of year. It’s heart-breaking, too, to think of a child receiving nothing on Christmas morning. These gifts go to children and members of the community who would otherwise face that reality.

‘We were really excited to be able to act as a drop off point for The Salvation Army’s Present Appeal. It’s a cause that pulls on all of our heartstrings in the store, and we all looked forward to picking out presents to donate ourselves.’

'Kindness and generosity'

Lieutenant Sian Radford of Rhyl Salvation Army, added: 'We're so grateful for people's kindness and generosity at this time of year so that we can help and support those for whom Christmas is a difficult time, by assisting them in practical ways. This is one way we can share a true sense of joy and hope with others.'
